Cover Judge

Cover Judge is a semi-weekly feature that spotlights the covers of upcoming young adult novels. This week's featured cover is one of my favorites of the new year - for one of my most anticipated upcoming releases, no less.

Though many say you can't judge a book by its cover, with a cover like this, it's hard not to.

Timepiece by Myra McEntire

Release: June 12, 2012

A threat from the past could destroy the future. And the clock is ticking...

Kaleb Ballard's relentless flirting is interrupted when Jack Landers, the man who tried to murder his father, timeslips in and attacks before disappearing just as quickly. But Kaleb has never before been able to see time travelers, unlike many of his friends associated with the mysterious Hourglass organization. Are Kaleb's powers expanding, or is something very wrong?

Then the Hourglass is issued an ultimatum. Either they find Jack and the research he's stolen on the time gene, or time will be altered with devastating results.

Now Kaleb, Emerson, Michael, and the other Hourglass recruits have no choice but to use their unusual powers to find Jack. But where do they even start? And when? And even if they succeed, it may not be enough...

The follow-up to Hourglass, Timepiece blends the paranormal, science fiction, mystery, and suspense genres into a nonstop thrill ride where every second counts.
Cover: Oh, Egmont USA, you have stolen my heart yet again. Myra McEntire has truly been blessed with great covers for her Hourglass series. Where should I start this love fest? The colors? The concept? The title font? Because, let's be honest, this cover is beautiful and wonderful and just darn cool to look at. I love that they continued the defying-gravity theme in this new cover. It is a tad bit less mind-blowing than the Hourglass cover, but still an extremely cool concept. What I like about the setup of this cover is that this time, gravity is in control, not Em. She is desperately resisting whatever force is pulling on her, rather than calmly walking into it. Perhaps this mean the challenges Em faces in Timepiece will be even more dangerous? Even more uncontrollable? All I know is I cannot wait!
